PEST MANAGEMENT: REGULAR SPIDER CONTROL & REMEDIATION SERVICE
Spider management and control are all part of a good regular pest management service as well as structure maintenance, good housekeeping practices, and controlling exterior conducive factors. Regular pest management services help with spiders in two major ways. First, the chemical portion of the spider extermination treatment reduces the insects that spiders feed on such as crickets, flies, roaches, sow bugs, and others. Reducing the food supply will reduce the spider populations. A great example of this is how spiders collect around exterior lights to catch flies that hover around the light at night.
Second is “webstering” or brushing away spider webs prior to the service…’sweeping before you mop’. This will help to disturb spiders from their resting places and forces them to move out to be contacted by the chemical directly or its residual left behind during the treatment.
Webstering also helps the technician locate spider harborage and keep an eye out for spider entry points like structure cracks, door and window gaps, broken screens, and other similar spider entry points. Webstering also helps deter spiders from making new webs in the same place. Eliminating places for spiders to hide and build their webs will help with control. Keeping the area next to the foundation free of trash, leaf litter, heavy vegetation, and other accumulations of materials in combination with chemical treatment makes the service even better. Trimming plant growth away from the house and other structures will discourage spiders from first taking up residence near the structure and then moving indoors.
Choosing the correct frequency of your spider management service is critical to keeping spiders controlled. Most spiders make their way indoors by following prey. Regular treatment helps to stop this with the use of residual chemicals. However, liquid residuals are temporary as they fade with time. The elements and other factors like sprinklers or other water features will weaken the residual.
Re-application of the chemical is required for regular exterior and interior control. Frequency has nothing to do with the size of the property or structure but more to do with its uses, exterior factors, and maintenance.

Every Other Month Service is best for locations with moderate landscaping, outdoor patio furniture items, and usage. If people and kids are regularly gathering outside every other month is a great balance between effective control, chemical usage, and budget. Monthly service is generally used for commercial accounts or residential locations that have many conducive conditions or use the outdoor space frequently, or clients with spider allergies, fears, or just a low tolerance.

Spiders are beneficial predators who rarely bite unless put into a defensive situation. Spider bites often occur to humans and pets if the spider is rolled on, trapped in clothing, or another similar situation. Spiders tucked into patio furniture are often a culprit. Spiders do not ‘attack’, but some are a bit more aggressive than others.
Some of the more common spiders seen in and around Los Angeles and Orange County homes and business are the Wolf Spider that likes to run on the ground. Cellar Spider or ‘Daddy Long Leg”, they like to hang in high corners and have long dangling webs.
The Black and Brown Widow are found mostly outside and like to live in small, covered areas that are dark and have strong webs. Yellow Sac Spider’s bite can resemble the Brown Recluse but not nearly as damaging or lengthy. Lastly, the American House Spider is primarily indoors.
Recluse Spiders are exceedingly rare in Southern California. They are often transported in freight, boxes, vehicles, and other items moving interstate, generally from the Southern Region of the United States.
